The first winning sample, washed Robusta honey, was described by the judges as having the following cup attributes: Juicy, peach, wine, spices, roasted almond, cane honey, tamarind, ginger, floral, ripe tropical fruits, strawberry, tangerine, apple, blackberry notes, chocolate, green grapes, red cranberry. The second winning sample was washed Robusta fermented for 24 hours with the following cup attributes: Juicy, strawberry, kiwi, tropical fruits, green currant, red cranberry, citric fruits, chocolate, tangerine, sweet caramel, pineapple marmalade, prunes.

“After five years of investigation and clone selection, Sucafarm managed to demonstrate that high yield and specialty quality can be compatible with the right coffee terroir, i.e. quality of soil, microclimate, genetic material and production know-how,” said Mr. Joe Massoud, the Managing Director of Sucafarm.

“Sucafarm Ecuador is a living example that paradigms can be overcome: It is possible to produce a high yield Robusta specialty coffee at sea level. This achievement constitutes a major step in reaching the financial sustainability of producers,” added Mr. Massoud.
