This Earth Day, we are highlighting one of our sustainability initiatives at origin. Rwacof (our sister company in Rwanda), The Bug Picture and COPED are transforming coffee and food waste into an environmentally-friendly organic fertilizer. The secret ingredient? Bugs!

At Sucafina, we #choosetochallenge gender inequality to create a better future for our partners, the coffee industry, and beyond. Increased gender equity leads to improved livelihoods and quality of life for millions of families and increased access to education and improved health for the next generation of coffee producers. 

On August 4, Beirut, Lebanon, was rocked by a series of huge explosions. Thousands of people have been injured, and hundreds have been reported killed and the governor of Beirut has estimated the cost of the damage to be more than US$10bn. Sucafina and Kahawatu Foundation now come together to lend their support. We invite our community to help us provide relief to those afflicted by this crisis.

In Kigali, Rwanda, like in many other cities around the world many people are suffering from the consequences of COVID-19. That's why Sucafina, Rwacof and Kahawatu Foundation have come together to join the Government of Rwanda with its efforts to provide relief and avoid a hunger crisis among casual workers

The low market means big risk to the coffee industry. Low prices threaten farmers, especially smallholders. In response, Sucafina North America has created the Farmgate Initiative, allowing roasters to make additional cash payments directly to farmers to increase the farmgate price.

This International Coffee Day Sucafina is shining a spotlight on the hard work of the millions of smallholder coffee farmers around the world,  who depend on coffee as their main source of income.

Sucafina announced today US$ 5 million in seed funding and working capital over the next 3 years to invest in alternative projects on agency banking, grain and banana production, as well as circular economy models for supplying goods and services to farmers living in proximity to the Group’s assets in East Africa.

Today we not only celebrate International Coffee Day, but also the changing role of women in the coffee value chain – a theme chosen by the International Coffee Organization (ICO) to mark this occasion across the world.

In an effort to support early childhood development in Rwanda, the Tamari Foundation in partnership with Imbuto Foundation and in collaboration with UNICEF Rwanda officially inaugurated on July 9, 2018, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Center in Rutsiro District.

This International Women's Day we're sharing details of our partnership with the International Trade Centre and Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE), which aims to empower female coffee producers in Rwanda and strengthen their participation at all levels of the supply chain.
