April 28, 2026 – This World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we’re sharing perspectives from Sucafina’s regional Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinators on why creating safe workplaces matters.
Safe workplaces are a core focus of Sucafina’s Caring for People sustainability pillar. Across our operations and supply chains, we support safe and responsible working conditions through structured health, safety and compliance systems, alongside ongoing monitoring and improvement.
This work is supported by our EHS program, with dedicated EHS Coordinators in key origins. EHS is part of our broader Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), our structure for embedding safe practices into day-to-day operations, building a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and strengthening a shared sense of responsibility.
We spoke to regional EHS Coordinators from five origins, who shared their thoughts on why advancing health and safety in the workplace is so important. Here’s what they had to say.
“Health & safety matters because people are an organization’s most valuable asset – caring for them goes beyond physical protection to genuinely valuing their wellbeing. It not only prevents harm but also empowers individuals to perform at their best and fosters a culture of trust, accountability and shared commitment.”
Calista Setiawan, HR & Admin, Indonesia“A parent coming home safely, an employee working without chronic pain, teams built on trust, a coffee community growing harmoniously…these are just a few of the things EHS helps ensure.” Leon Huang, Operations Manager, China
“In every action we take and every risk we prevent, we are building a safe and healthy workplace – because your family is waiting for you at home, and your team needs you to be safe every day at work.” Nadia Umurerwa, EHS & Communications Officer, Rwanda
“Health & safety is not only about protecting lives today, but also about promoting long-term health and wellbeing to create greater value tomorrow.”
Nhu Le, Senior Sustainability Coordinator, Vietnam“Health & safety is important to me because it means caring for lives – and other people’s loved ones. That’s why I never compromise on workplace safety. Putting the right preventive measures in place helps ensure that people can return home to those they love, safely and in good health.” Virlene Paiva, EHS Specialist, Brazil
Ensuring employees’ health, safety and wellbeing is an ongoing effort – one that requires consistency, collaboration and continuous improvement. As our operations evolve, we continue to develop our systems, strengthen training and refine how we monitor and respond to risks, supporting safer workplaces across Sucafina.
