SUCAFINA ANNOUNCES SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP WITH GENEVA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, INDUSTRY AND SERVICES

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, March 16, 2022 – Sucafina, a leading sustainable Farm to Roaster coffee company, has announced that it will be acting as a sustainability partner for the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (known as the CCIG – Chambre de commerce, d’industrie et des services de Genève). This partnership reaffirms Sucafina’s commitment to a more sustainable coffee industry.

“A leader in sustainability advocacy, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce is delighted to welcome Sucafina as its sustainability partner. We look forward to highlighting and leveraging Sucafina’s numerous CSR projects and actions, while pragmatically contributing to on-the-ground initiatives,” said Vincent Subilia, Director General of the CCIG.

Through the partnership, the CCIG supports a project implemented by Sucafina’s sister company in Kenya to install ‘biodigesters’ on farms. This project reduces the carbon footprint of farming and creates immediate social and economic impacts on livelihoods, contributing to at least 9 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (*).

Biodigesters take household and agricultural waste and transform it into renewable energy, in the form of methane-rich biogas, and organic fertilizer. The gas can be funneled into household appliances like cooking stoves, replacing charcoal and firewood, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and making household air cleaner and safer. Biodigesters can be installed in a wide range of sizes to support families of all sizes and with a variety of needs.

It costs around US $1,000 to install a basic biodigester for home use, and once it is set up, two cows can produce enough gas to cook three meals per day, and produce organic fertilizer for 300 coffee trees and food crops (reducing the need for chemical fertilizer). “Partnering with the CCIG on this impactful project is just one example of how we at Sucafina are contributing to the sustainable transformation of our industry and creating shared value for all. This ‘stakeholder capitalism’ presents a great opportunity for companies and people with the right mindset to thrive,” says Nicolas A. Tamari, CEO of Sucafina.

With the support of CCIG, Sucafina hopes to continue to address community needs and environmental sustainability while improving coffee quality.
