GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, March 12, 2019 – Ugacof, Sucafina’s subsidiary in Uganda, has been awarded the prize of “Exporter of the Year” in the 2018 annual Presidential Exporters Awards held on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
Ugacof won the Platinum Award followed by Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd, which came second and was awarded a Gold Award.
The coffee processing and exporting companies competed with more than 50 companies under different categories and product lines. They were all assessed by the Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB) and the Trade Ministry based on their export performance, contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic growth and development, product diversification, and corporate social responsibility.
According to the Daily Monitor in reference to data released by the Bank of Uganda last month, “Uganda has recorded growth in exports, posting exports receipts of $3.6b (Shs13.3trillion) up from $3.4b (Shs12.5 trillion).”
“We are very proud to be recognized as Uganda’s leading exporter across all sectors, which is a testament to our commitment and contribution to the country’s socio-economic growth rooted in coffee,” said Joe Hage-Chahine, the Managing Director of Ugacof.
