GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, August 18, 2020 – On August 4, 2020, Beirut, Lebanon, was rocked by a series of huge explosions. A shock wave raced from the site of the blasts, on Beirut’s industrial waterfront, into the heart of the city’s residential neighborhoods, damaging homes and hospitals and shattering windows for miles. Thousands of people have been injured, and hundreds have been reported killed. The governor of Beirut has estimated the cost of the damage to be more than US$10bn.
This tragedy hits people already suffering in the face of an economic crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Kahawatu Foundation and Sucafina now come together to lend their support. We invite our community to help us provide relief to those afflicted by this crisis.
Between now and Monday, September 7, 2020, Sucafina will match every dollar donated to reach the target of US$50K. Funds go towards food, building materials for those whose homes have been destroyed, and medical equipment for those who need it most.
