EHS AT SUCAFINA: Q&A WITH KARLA MARIA GUZMAN

1. What is your role within Sucafina’s Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) and Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) network?

My role is to lead and coordinate the implementation and continuous improvement of Sucafina Colombia’s Integral Management System (Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment).

I’m responsible for ensuring compliance with national legislation on occupational health, safety and the environment. I also help to ensure transparency and good communication between local and global ESMS/EHS teams and support our Sustainability team by implementing ESMS policies locally, aligned with Group standards.

2. How does Sucafina’s ESMS support stronger governance practices in your operation?

The ESMS includes formal committees at both the country and Group level, incorporating EHS and sustainability risks and providing a platform for clear responsibility and transparent decision-making. The ESMS ensures that sustainability and ethical practices are integral to the company’s activities.

As in other Origin operations, Sucafina Colombia has a dedicated Country ESMS Committee, chaired each quarter by our Country Manager. The committee oversees implementation of ESMS protocols, including mapping risks, implementing corrective measures and promoting a culture of safety and sustainability.

The active participation of collaborators, suppliers, clients and other key stakeholders is promoted through mechanisms such as Speak Up – Sucafina’s global grievance mechanism. Speak Up ensures confidentiality, reducing conflicts and strengthening stakeholder relations when complaints are managed internally.

3. What mechanisms do we have to track and monitor EHS performance indicators and how are these insights integrated in the ESMS committee’s decision-making?

We have structured EHS indicators that are monitored and measured regularly. These indicators provide metrics on water consumption, emissions and health and safety incidents, among others, allowing us to evaluate trends and establish timely action plans. These reports feed into ESMS Committee meetings, where trends are analyzed and evidence-based decisions are made to improve performance.
