EHS AT SUCAFINA: Q&A WITH DINO MODERNO

1. How is Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) positioned within your organizational structure and what does that say about its importance to the business?

EHS is central to how we operate, with regards to both policy and structure. Our EHS Coordinator has a clearly defined role with recognized input into the decision-making process. They report directly to me, ensuring that EHS considerations are part of all aspects of the business, from operations to investment planning.

By empowering the Coordinator and giving them access to leadership, we’re signaling that EHS is non-negotiable and is a fundamental part of daily and strategic operations.

2. In your experience, how does leadership influence the success of EHS initiatives across the organization?

Leadership plays a pivotal role in embedding EHS into organizational culture. When upper management is visibly engaged through consistent actions and resource allocation it sends a powerful message that EHS isn’t just a compliance issue or a side initiative. It becomes part of how we operate every day.

At our site, when leaders regularly participate in safety walkthroughs, ask questions about environmental performance or bring up EHS in business strategy meetings, it normalizes these conversations. It no longer feels like something exceptional but becomes deeply integrated into the organization. That visibility and commitment drive accountability at every level.
