SUCAFINA FOUNDER ABDALLAH W. TAMARI HAS PASSED AWAY AGED 100

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, January 28, 2022 — The Management Board and employees of Sucafina SA are sad to announce that the company’s founder, Abdallah W. Tamari, has passed away at the age of 100.

Abdallah W. Tamari was born in 1922 in the coastal city of Jaffa, Palestine. His family was forced to emigrate to Lebanon as a result of the Palestinian exodus in 1948. His father’s business – an import–export company established in 1905 – disappeared almost overnight; rebuilding required great resilience and determination.

Remaining true to his family tradition in commodities, Abdallah W. Tamari founded Sucafina in 1977 in Geneva, Switzerland, where the family had resettled. Sucafina originally dealt with sugar, coffee, and finance, before shifting its focus entirely on coffee as the company grew.

Abdallah W. Tamari instilled in his family a love of knowledge, a belief that values and passion build a person's character, and a constant dedication to philanthropic work.

“Whether or not you have defined your future goals, it is essential to keep in mind that, while you strive to reach them, you must work hard, stick to your values and principles, and believe in yourself. Make no mistake: money does not make a person’s character, but knowledge, values, passion, and compassion do. Remember, your success when dealing with others is contained in these five words: ‘My word is my bond’. Make them your motto.”

Mr. Abdallah W. Tamari.

Abdallah W. Tamari will be missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and everyone in the Sucafina group.

“We are mourning the loss of our founder, my father Abdallah W. Tamari,” says Sucafina CEO, Nicolas A. Tamari. “His legacy will live on as Sucafina colleagues around the world continue to pursue his legacy and to live his values.”
